Great post. I think Reed Graham's piece is valuable reading for writers, but it is ironic that, given its subject matter, it has virtually no paragraph structure.

In any case I can write amid distractions, but cannot do many other work related activities, such as copy writing or systems design, in such as environment. Much of my writing has taken place in Starbucks on weekends, where loud, jovial gatherings dominate. That is fortunate for me, as it is far easier to find a place to write when you don't have to avoid noisy locations.

thanks for the tips! It's true that practice is key and I always ask people to review my papers, edit them and proofread them. I hate as a reviewer to receive papers loaded with grammatical errors and as a non English native writer, it's hard sometimes to have the perfect manuscript.

Good post there on how to check your work and become a better writer, many of which I pass on to different students and academics. The funny thing is, is that quite a lot of lecturers and professors need a little bit of nudge onto the correct once in a while. Goes to show that they're just as human.
